I live in a condo building with a concrete subfloor in good shape. I'd like to install Novalis vinyl tile planks from Lowes, but the building requires an underlayment to ensure an IIC rating of at least 50. What options do I have? I'd like to keep the underlayment as thin as possible, as the floor to ceiling height is already short as it is. I had the bedrooms re-carpeted but planned on laying hardwoods in the living areas. The problem is that now I realize that my floors are pretty uneven and have several large cracks in the light weight concrete.

In most cases, a concrete subfloor already exists beneath another flooring material in both on-grade and below-grade locations. That means that "installing" a concrete floor means just uninstalling whatever has been placed over it. Because no new material is produced, there is no carbon footprint or depletion of resources.
